Coconut oil and Red Palm oil: Fat burning antioxidants

Nature is full of surprises. A perfect example includes two oils that have been around for ages: Coconut Oil and Red Palm Oil. Both are full of saturated fats, but instead of fattening you up, they melt fat away.

These two oils are rich in antioxidants and have been shown to fight the signs of aging, increase immune health, and help lower cholesterol, all while helping fight fat- especially belly fat!  They are also great because not only can you cook with them, but you can even use them topically and they work wonders for your skin.  In fact, I’ve personally seen how coconut oil has dramatically improved my seborrheic dermatitis (a skin condition that causes redness and peeling, usually ears, eyebrows and scalp) when I have gotten it in the past.

Coconut Oil: Fat-Fighting Antioxidant Oil #1

While Coconut Oil is high in saturated fats, this fatty oil has a number of properties that transform it into fat-burning oil, not a weight gain nightmare.

Coconut Oil contains a special fat known as “medium-chain triglycerides” or MTCs. These triglycerides break down easily within the liver and are a great source of energy for the body.

I typically recommend people use about a teaspoon 30 minutes before their workout by itself or in a grass fed whey protein shake to provide them with sustained energy while allowing them to be in a fat burning mode.

In fact, in 2009, a study found that women who consumed about two tablespoons of Coconut Oil daily over a period of twelve weeks not only failed to gain weight, but many of them showed marked loss of abdominal fat, which is typically difficult to eliminate and has been linked to many health risks. So now imagine using it with good nutrient timing like I just mentioned above. However, everyone is different and for some people using Coconut Oil in this way may cause a stomach ache, so pay attention to your body.

Coconut Oil also helps to lower cholesterol levels and improves your ability to fight off bacteria and viruses.

I use this oil in particular to cook almost everything. It adds great flavor, smells amazing, and has great health benefits in every tasty bite.

Red Palm Oil: Fat-Fighting Antioxidant Oil #2

I learned about this oil very recently and so happy I did.

Red Palm Oil, much like Coconut Oil, is high in saturated fats. In fact, at room temperature, it looks a whole lot like lard.

The first time I saw it, I assumed this stuff clogs arteries just by looking at it! However, when Red Palm Oil was put to the medical tests, it left the medical and scientific community baffled. Despite its high saturated fat content, Red Palm Oil not only helps fight fat, it also protects against heart disease and chisels away at the plaque already clogging our arteries, reversing the effects!

Like Coconut Oil, Red Palm Oil is easily metabolized by the liver and promotes greater energy and burns more calories. While both Coconut and Red Palm Oil have MCTs, Red Palm Oil brings more carotenoid and tocotrienol antioxidants with it to the table, which in addition to anti-aging properties give the oil its reddish color.

Red Palm Oil has been part of the human diet for at least 5,000 years. You can use it anywhere that a recipe calls for traditional cooking oil, like canola. However, please keep the coloring in mind as you make your menu.

Go ahead and substitute your cooking oils with these powerful oils and incorporate about two tablespoons a day so you can begin improving your health, dropping unwanted fat, and even improve your skin!

I’ve never tried red palm oil, so I’ll check it out, but I love coconut oil. It’s a great compliment to sweet potato fries and pancakes! It’ll give your food a dynamic flavor, that whatever recipe you’re following didn’t really expect. It’ll make regular cooking oils seem bland. What do you think about Macadamia Nut or Avocado Oils? I’ve heard about high flash points being a good thing… Something about the change oils go through when heated to certain points. I’m just curious about the different effects heated vs. non-heated oils have on your body.

FYI, please be mindful of where you get your red palm oil and what kind of red palm oil you consume. First question should be sustainability, secondly is it organic and unrefined so you receive all the health benefits. Red palm oil’s continent of origin has been left out of al lot of the conversation but it is primarily the answer to all the question one have about this great oil. If you can find companies that import their red palm oil from African countries, especially from small villages that use old techniques to extract their oil, then bingo you are wining in so many ways, you will stand against deforestation, and not hearm wild life and you will also get all the nutritional value that is to find in red palm oil. ” You simply can’t dublicate nature”.
